what we install.

residential and light commercial hardscape. every project starts with proper excavation and a structured base — the part nobody sees, and the part that determines whether your patio is still flat in ten years.

01

interlocking patios & walkways

from simple rectangular patios to multi-level outdoor living spaces with seating walls and integrated lighting. we work with you on layout, banding, and material before a single stone is set.

02

paver driveways

driveways are the most demanding paver application — heaviest loads, hardest freeze-thaw. we use thicker pavers, engineered bases, and edge restraints rated for vehicle traffic.

03

retaining walls

engineered segmental retaining wall systems for grade changes, slope stabilization, and tiered gardens. drainage, geogrid, and base detail done to spec — not eyeballed.

steps & risers

pre-cast slab steps and built-up paver risers for entryways, garden transitions, and pool access. designed to code, set to last.

outdoor living features

fire pits, seating walls, planters, and pillar caps that turn a flat patio into a place you actually use after dinner.

repairs & re-levelling

settled pavers, heaved sections, failed bases. we lift, re-grade, re-set, and re-sand — extending the life of an existing install instead of tearing it out.

we build with the best canadian stone.

we work primarily with two manufacturers — chosen for product quality, colour stability, freeze-thaw performance, and the breadth of design options they make available. both are canadian.

— 04 · how we work

from site visit to final sweep.

a clean process keeps surprises out of the project. here's how a typical job moves from first call to the day we hand it back to you.

step 01

site visit

we come to you. walk the property, take measurements, talk through what you're after. no pressure, no charge.

step 02

design & quote

layout, product selection, and a fixed, itemized written quote. you'll see exactly what's included — and what isn't.

step 03

build

excavate, base prep, edge restraint, install, polymeric sand. the work is sequenced and the site stays as clean as a site can be.

step 04

walkthrough & warranty

final inspection together. you sign off when you're satisfied — and we leave a written warranty on the workmanship.

— 05 · about

local hands.
built for freeze-thaw.

blumstein paving inc. is a manitoba-based hardscape contractor. we're not a national franchise and we're not seasonal flippers — we're a small crew who do this work, year after year, in the climate it has to survive.

that climate is the whole game. manitoba pavers don't fail because of the surface — they fail because of what's underneath. we build like that's true, because it is.

base first

proper excavation depth, compacted aggregate base, and edge restraint on every job — no shortcuts.

drainage matters

every grade decision is intentional. water moves where we want it to move.

trained crews

icpi-trained installers and certified through barkman and techo-bloc's installer programs.

written warranty

workmanship warranty on every install, plus the manufacturer's product warranty.

— 06 · frequently asked

common questions.

things people ask before booking. if yours isn't here, get in touch — we'd rather over-explain than under-explain.

how long does a typical paver project take?

a standard residential patio or front walkway is usually 3–5 working days from excavation to final polymeric sand. driveways and large multi-feature backyards run 1–3 weeks depending on scope. we give you a target window in the written quote.

what's your service area?

we service all of manitoba and the whiteshell. cottage country projects are a regular part of our season — get in touch early since travel projects book out further ahead.

do you handle design, or just install?

both. we can install from a landscape architect's drawings, or we can lay out the project with you on-site — walking the property, talking through material, layout, and how the finished space will live.

why interlocking pavers instead of poured concrete or asphalt?

pavers move with the ground instead of cracking. individual units can be lifted and re-set if there's ever a settling issue. they don't seal in the way concrete does, and the colour is integral to the product so it doesn't fade. done properly, expect 25+ years of service.

do retaining walls need engineering?

walls over ~1.2 m (4 ft) typically require engineered drawings depending on the municipality. we'll flag this in the quote and coordinate with a structural engineer on anything above the threshold or anything holding back a load (driveway, structure, etc.).

when's the best time of year to book?

earlier than you think. we typically book out 6–10 weeks ahead of work dates by mid-spring, and the whiteshell projects fill up first. if you're planning a 2026 install, reach out over the winter and we'll get you on the schedule.
